Can You Use White Oak PVC Wall Panels Inside a Shower?

If you are looking for waterproof wall panels for the inside of a shower, hold off on ordering our White Oak PVC pack for that job. Some PVC panels are sold as shower linings. Our White Oak PVC wall panel listing gives the finish, size and pack quantity, but it does not specify use under direct spray or link to a shower installation guide for this product. Here is what would let you make that decision.

What does the pack listing actually tell you?

White Oak is listed at £140 for eight panels, each 240 cm tall and 30 cm wide. That tells you what would arrive if you ordered one pack. When the shower runs, though, what stops water getting behind the wall at the corner, where two panels meet or where a pipe passes through?

A useful document names the product or range you are buying, explicitly includes shower enclosures and shows how its edges and openings are finished. Look for a detail of the bottom of the wall meeting the tray. If the drawing ends before that junction, ask the supplier for the missing detail before pricing the job.

For an example of what to look for, page 5 of Multipanel’s guide for its 11 mm laminate panels (PDF) covers the tray edge and openings for valves and controls. Those details belong to the laminate products named in that guide. Your fitter needs the equivalent information for the exact PVC panel on your shortlist.

One bathroom, three different buying decisions

Imagine you want the same pale wood finish on three walls. Take one photo from the doorway and mark the walls A, B and C. The useful part of the photo is where the water goes, including when the screen is open or the hand shower is in use.

Example wall list to send with your photo
WallWhat to establish before ordering
A · Inside the enclosureThe shower sprays this wall every day. Ask for written confirmation of this use, the fitting guide for the exact panel, and the detail for the tray and valve openings. Keep this wall off the order until your fitter can check them.
B · Behind the basinShow how far splashes reach when someone washes their hands. Ask whether the finish suits that exposure and how the junction with the basin or worktop is dealt with.
C · Opposite the showerIf this wall stays out of the spray, describe the steam or condensation it actually gets. Ask about use as a decorative finish in those conditions. An answer for wall C applies only to wall C.

Suppose the seller confirms wall C and sends a bathroom photo showing a similar colour. You can now price C for the use they confirmed. Keep A and B as separate lines marked “awaiting confirmation”. That way the fitter can quote for the decorative wall without accidentally including the enclosure in the same specification.

What to ask the shop

“I’m considering the White Oak eight-panel PVC pack. Wall A in my photo is inside the shower and meets the tray. Is this exact product specified for that use? Please send the manufacturer’s fitting guide and any warranty conditions for the enclosure. I’ve marked the basin wall B and the opposite wall C separately. Which of these uses can you confirm?”

Include the product link so the reply identifies the right pack. If nobody can supply the shower specification, choose a documented shower-lining system for wall A. You can browse the decorative PVC finishes for the other walls and send us your marked-up photo before deciding on quantities.
