How Many Acoustic Wall Panels Do I Need?

Start with the usable wall size

Measure the wall width and height in metres. If you are covering only part of a wall, measure the exact feature area instead of the full room. Subtract large areas that will not be panelled, such as a door opening, but keep smaller obstacles in the plan because panels still need to be cut around them.

Area method

Multiply the wall width by the wall height to find the wall area in square metres. Then divide that figure by the coverage of one panel and round up to the next whole panel.

Wall area = width x height.
Panels required = wall area / panel coverage.

A 240 x 60 cm panel has a face area of approximately 1.44 square metres. A 60 x 60 cm panel has a face area of approximately 0.36 square metres. Confirm the live product dimensions before ordering.

Width method for full-height panels

Where a 240 cm-high panel is installed vertically and matches the intended wall height, the simplest calculation may be based on width. Divide the usable wall width by 0.6 metres and round up. A 4.0 metre wall would therefore require 6.67 panels, rounded up to 7, before allowing for unusual cuts or another wall return.

Allow for cuts and mistakes

A simple rectangular wall may need only a small allowance, while rooms with several sockets, corners or angled ceilings need more. A common planning allowance is around 5% to 10%, but the correct figure depends on the layout and whether useful offcuts can be reused. Ordering a matching extra panel at the start can also reduce the risk of a later batch having a slightly different tone.

Check the layout, not only the area

Area calculations can hide awkward end cuts. Sketch the wall and mark each panel width. Decide whether the layout starts from one edge or is centred. Include adjoining walls separately and confirm whether the slats continue around corners.
